Alexandria Brighton is a renowned aromatherapy formulator, educator, and founder of the Brighton Institute of Botanical Studies. With over 30 years of experience in Ayurvedic medicine, aromatherapy, herbalism, and natural remedies, she has become a trusted voice in the world of holistic healing.
Her journey began in the early 1970s, when she joined a study group led by Dr. Paul Wedel - an oncologist and one of the first American physicians to explore and introduce alternative medicine in the U.S. Dr. Wedel was a student of Dr. Hans Nieper, a German oncologist and founder of the German Cancer Society, whose pioneering work in integrative medicine deeply influenced Alexandria's path.
In the early 1980s, Alexandria opened The Degenerative Disease Clinic in Mexico, applying Dr. Wedel's methods in clinical practice. She expanded her herbal knowledge by completing Dr. John Christopher's respected Herbal Medicine course, which inspired her to establish her own herbal pharmacy.
That pharmacy grew into a full herbal supplement company and eventually evolved into a multi-level marketing (MLM) business. During this time, a single drop of essential oil in an herbal product sparked Alexandria's fascination with aromatherapy. Eager to learn more, she sought out education from leading French and English aromatherapy practitioners.
Throughout the late 1980s, Alexandria continued to lead her MLM company from the U.S. while formulating a wide range of herbal tinctures, teas, supplements, and essential oil blends. This was also the era when essential oils, Ayurvedic medicine, and aromatherapy began gaining traction in North America - perfectly aligning with her growing expertise.
In the early 1990s, Alexandria stepped away from the MLM model to found a new company grounded in education, product quality, and - above all - safety. By this time, she had developed over 100 aromatherapy blends and was sourcing essential oils from a specialized French laboratory run by a biochemist. Recognizing the need for targeted therapeutic systems, she began curating specialized collections and teaching essential oil and Ayurvedic protocols with a strong focus on safe and effective use.
In 2012, guided by her deep trust and respect for Ben and Paula Scarcella, Alexandria entered into an exclusive partnership to make her formulations available through goDesana. This collaboration later expanded in early 2017 with the launch of Heart & Body Naturals. Their shared vision and commitment to quality opened new doors for Alexandria, enabling her to source directly from artisan distillers and expand her line of pristine essential oils and Ayurvedic herbs.
