Wood essential oils are those that evoke the peaceful beauty of the woods and forests. With their strong, earthy, natural scents, they bring a grounding balance that allows us to recharge. These oils come from the wood, leaves and branches, or resin of trees. HBN's wood oils include Black Spruce, Copaiba, Cypress, Eucalyptus Globulus, Eucalyptus Radiata, Frankincense, Peppermint, Ravintsara, and Tea Tree.
Most wood oils can only be used aromatically or topically, but the benefits from both of those uses are very strong. Wood oils are well-known for their emotion balancing properties, and some can be quite energizing as well. They're a favorite among men, making them great for use in DIY cologne blends.
With a wonderfully fresh and uplifting aroma, Black Spruce possesses the ability to free and calm the mind while elevating the spirit. Like all conifer oils, it is an emotionally grounding oil yet at the same time stimulating, making it an excellent refresher for physical or mental exhaustion or in times of stress or anxiety.*
Indigenous tribes in South America have used Copaiba in traditional medicine for centuries as a topical wound healer, to stop bleeding, and for skin sores and psoriasis. It has been used as a strong antiseptic and expectorant for the respiratory system, and as an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic for the urinary tract. It was an official drug in the U.S. Pharmacopeia from 1820 to 1910.*
In all of aromatherapy there is perhaps no oil more effective than Cypress Essential Oil to assist with an infection of the throat, nose, or bronchi in its early phase. Used at the very f irst signs of a sore throat, it is typically sufficient to arrest the process.*
This variety of Eucalyptus, known as Blue Gum Tree, is a potent respiratory oil of help to and benefit with bacterial infections, colds, flu, sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma, and chronic cough. Also an excellent pain reliever of benefit to arthritis, rheumatism, ligament damage, and muscular aches and pains.*
Primarily an essential oil for the respiratory system. It is a powerful expectorant and mucolytic with good ability for fluidification. Eucalyptus Radiata has long lasting effects and is particularly indicated for children.*
In the last few years, Western science has become aware of the ability of Frankincense to lessen the pain caused by rheumatism. According to pharmacological research, Frankincense also has strong anti-inflammatory properties that could make it a natural remedy for inflammation-rooted diseases.*
Carrier oils, also known as message oils, are so named because they "carry" essential oils onto the skin. Carrier oils are used when necessary to dilute essential oils for use on the skin. Grapeseed Oil is the preferred carrier oil for use with children and during pregnancy. It has several important health benefits, and is a good source of essential fatty acids and vitamin E. *
Unlike many other herbs and essential oils, numerous health benefits of Peppermint leaves and Peppermint essential oil have been studied and proven by the scientific community. Peppermint contains antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral, and antimicrobial compounds, making it effective with gingivitis, colds and flu, and respiratory concerns.*
Ravintsara is an excellent antiviral agent, particularly for flu. Ravintsara is also very effective in cases of shingles and herpes. It is a nerve tonic as well as a mental and physical stimulant; it revitalizes people suffering from physical and nervous fatigue.*
An incredibly useful essential oil, Tea Tree, along with Lavender, is one of the essential oils mild enough to be used in small quantities directly on the skin. It is an excellent antifungal oil useful for cuts, pimples, and wounds, and as an inhalation for colds.*
